I’m not sure about the validity of the “scientific” research the maker claims, but this is what I do know about this salt. This product although expensive is superior to grocery store salt. This is mined from deep in the earth before we started trashing the planet. Regular sea salt is from sources that can’t help but be at least a little polluted. The popular pollution free option in these modern days is to make table salt. This manmade salt is pure sodium and chloride, and lacks the minerals that makes salt nutritious leaving only negatives and no, “salt of the earth” left. It’s a sad state that we live in that it costs so much to buy a quality salt that has the natural trace minerals we need for good health. (these minerals are available from plant sources, but you have to eat tons to get the same amount) On a positive side, a big bag of this lasts my two person household about a year using only this to salt food or cook.
I am using this product now. I will discuss both the himalayan salt inhaler and the himalayan salt itself and how I use both. I am asthmatic and have been so since I was 3. I find the salt inhaler helpful but I still use my regular inhaler which is minimal. What I am finding out is that when I drink the himalayan salt twice a day that is helping cut down my asthma. I drink one teaspoon in the morning and the evening. It doesn’t taste to bad but I get it down fast. I also use warm water. That approach is making some differences. I use the himalayan salt inhaler along with my other inhaler. The salt inhaler makes my lungs feel good. Asthma is a lower tract problem visiting the lungs or at least if you read about asthma ascarsis it has a full cycle from the lower tract into the lungs. Not a fun problem. My dad and grandfather had asthma and who knows how far back the problem exists. It isn’t genetic but a bacterium that is very hard to kill. The drinking of the himalayan salt helps to alkalize the body but it also does some unique tricks of its own for what it is. It is an wonderful mineral supplement of many minerals in addition to the salt. Salt kills anything and is a killer of germs. The process has to be used daily as once asthma and lung problems exist, the fight is on to keep the lid on it. It isn’t an easy street problem that can be quickly resolved. I use the himalayan salt drink now to kill what causes asthma and I will continue to use it to keep the problem at bay. It has cut down my allergies tremendously so I’m a big fan of it. The inhaler I really like. It makes my lungs feel good. I can breathe a lot deeper with it I’ve noticed. I’ve had mine over about two months now and progress is with both techniques I am talking about. Please note I am not talking about table salt or sea salt of any kind; I am talking about the himalayan salt. It is the only one that has this incredible balancing and healing property to it. I am seeing some wonderful results by drinking it. And believe me asthma has been so miserable for me that drinking it is nothing. Original Himalayan Crystal Salt Inhaler Reviews
I got asthma symptoms after having a bad bout of bronchitis last fall. Everytime I try to clean house or even if I merely move something with the slightest bit of dust on it, I begin to cough uncontrollably. Thus, I have to run to my inhaler or if I’ve already used it, I have to suffer through the coughing fit.I’d gone to cleaning house wearing a dust mask and had to experiment before finding one of those that actually worked. Needless to say, this has been a total inconvenience as well as being physically painful and alarming. I’ve worried what the long terms effects are of using the drug.
I won’t say I don’t cough occasionally after faithfully using this product but not with a fraction of the intensity and duration I’ve previously experienced. Even if the salt in it is from Cleveland not the Himalayas who cares? It works and it produced the desired effect for which I’m humbly grateful. I would recommend this product for fellow sufferers to try. I’ve been able to go without using my inhaler for a week!!!

UPDATE!: March 14, 2009–Haven’t used inhaler for over a year. I still have to be faithful about using this when I’m going through a bad period. I sent one as a gift to a friend from FL and he’s experiencing the same relief.
I am a lifelong asthmatic. I’ve tried just about everything. I take a daily steroid inhaler, and on average use my albuterol rescue inhaler probably 4-5 times a day, as well as during the night when I sleep. After a horrible few weeks of breathing after getting over a flu I went on the web in my never-ending quest for asthma relief and stumbled across salt inhalation therapy. After reading a few articles about it I found these salt inhalers and gave it a try. I have this same model, but bought it from a different source. I noticed a difference after the first use, but I thought it might just be a placebo effect so I gave it a few extra days. After the second day of using the salt, I went all day without using my rescue inhaler!!! A week later, I’ve used my rescue inhaler maybe once. And when I did use the inhaler, it really worked. I had built up a tolerance over the years and noticed my medications were becoming less effective. I’m going through the night without having to use my inhaler at all and feeling great when I wake up. I just feel normal for the first time in years. Soon I may get the courage to wean myself off the steroids and see how that goes. I don’t know exactly why this works. Some theorize the salt draws water into your lungs and helps the mucus lining do its job proberly. Or possibly the properties of salt neutralize bacteria and irritants in the lungs. All I know is that I truly notice a difference, and didn’t think I would. The cherry on top for me is that the salt crystals inside supposedly work for 3-5 years. If this was in the hands of a pharmaceutical company they’d figure out a way to make you replace them every month at exorbitant cost. Anyway, I’d say this product is worth trying.

I have tried many different salts over the past few years. This one is simply the best. It has a high price tag, but it is worth every penny. If you have a refined palate you WILL notice how wonderful it is with the first bite. It is a smooth salt, not sharp. Not overly strong, but full bodied. I was buying Celtic Sea Salt, but will not be going back unless my budget starts to squeak. Good salt is worth it!
My chiropractor recommended Himalayan Sea Salt as THE salt for salt lovers, as it contains the minerals that were taken out in processing the (he calls garbage) table salt, and I love it. Glad I got two grinders; one for home and one for the RV. It was a mite pricey, as I was able to purchase some more salt to refill from the chiropracter for a lot less. I would recommend the product. The grinder was not too big and cumbersome, but was a good size.

Coarse Granulated Original Himalayan Crystal Sea Salt Reviews
These crystals have the minerals intact, which is vital to the salt benefit and function.
I don’t know when or why purveyors of salt began removing the natural mineral content, but that action involved a frightening ignorance.
For certain types of specific health issues (see below), the minerals in the sea salt crystals seem to work better for me in their crystalline (or coarse) form, than when I grind the salt, as I do for cooking or table usage salt.
As others have noted, mineral-rich, coarse-sea-salt freshly grinded onto food is much crisper in its culinary effect, more satisfying to the taste buds, than pre-granulated, plain table salt (which has the minerals removed, minerals found naturally in sea salt and which enhance both health benefits and flavor bursts).
Also, old style, granulated table salt has an added disadvantage from the fairly recent addition of a variety of anti-caking chemicals, some of which contain aluminum (silicoaluminate)… which I’m concerned may be a brain cell deteriorative, possibly at baseline cause for Alzheimer’s.
If I take a pinch of salt crystals (coarse sea salt contains crystals) 2 or sometimes 4 times per day, and place them in my mouth, moving them around to dissolve the salt in saliva on my teeth and gums, I find that both teeth and gums retain a much higher degree of health. I had begun having minor tooth aches periodically, and this practice has alleviated that.
As noted above, I’m 60-years-old; and with a debilitating liver ailment since I was 9, I find that when I have an attack of severe abdominal and back muscle cramps (which I get fairly frequently), a pinch of sea salt crystals in my mouth will stop those cramps. In fact, when I take small amounts of sea salt crystals regularly enough, I don’t get those cramps at all. The cause and effect is immediate and direct, so I know this works for me. From my experience, plain table salt, or even sea salt without the mineral content will not give this beneficial effect. (I’m guessing it’s the magnesium content which works here, though, it might be the wholeness of the natural balance of the particular mineral group within unadulterated salt).
Of course, I also drink one, preferably two glasses of water along with the salt crystals, ingesting the water before, after, or both.
I learned about the many benefits of sea salt crystals (with the natural mineral content not having been leached away in well meaning ignorance) from Dr. Batmanghelidj’s book Obesity Cancer & Depression: Their Common Cause & Natural Cure. I recommend that book very highly and hope to be able to review it also.
Dr Batman’s books explain how, when, why, and how much water the body needs for optimum health, and sea salt crystals are a vital part of that program.
Note that in this book he explains also how, when, and why a person can take too much salt and water. I suppose I’m “lucky” that I have a barometer for sea salt crystal needs. When I’m not taking enough the cramps return. During hot weather (or under other dehydrating conditions) when the body loses more salt and water, I have to increase the intake of both.
As far as I recall, Dr. Batman hadn’t mentioned the connection of sea salt to alleviate regular large muscle cramping. That I discovered this on my own after I had been taking the sea salt regularly, due to reading Dr. Batman’s book.
Bless this man for standing up to so many medical fallacies which are literally creating diseases, then causing addiction to high cost medications which do NOT cure the ailment, but add several other ailments into a complex medical condition which piles prescriptions on top of prescriptions.

Experts agree that conventional salt, sea salt, and himalayan crystal salt are very different substances. All three have been analyzed microscopically and nutritionally.Himilayan Crystal Salt was the most nutritive, while the conventional salt and sea salt were not. However, knowledge is easily to verify these days without the need for biased opinion. The science is in, it’s tops for trace minerals and thus nutrition; and for this culinary artist my opinion is it is simply deliscious.

This salt is simply as wonderful as the packaging states. I have tried many different salts and this one is by far my favorite. Hands down. Worth every penny.
This is the only salt you should buy for your family. At first I was discouraged by the price of this salt, compared to other salts, but now that we have tried this, I am hooked. We do not use very much salt anyway, but when I do, and my kids want salt on their corncob etc, I feel very good that I am giving them great essential minerals and that this is salt in it’s purest form.
We grind it right at the table in a salt grinder. It is beautiful to look at too, as our grinder is clear. This salt is a glorious pink color. One package lasts our family of 6 about 2 months, and I use it in my cooking and baking too.

I love this stuff. It has a delicate range of flavors–if one can speak of salt as having a range of flavors–that totally outclasses any other salt I have had. The rough and big crystals of other Himalayan products are just not as flavorful as the finely ground stuff.
I am not a gourmet type person but this stuff is just the best salt I have ever tasted with food.
I had purchased this salt previously from another site, and I was very happy to find it here. I have used the salt stones for a relaxing salt bath, the coarse salt for a salt grinder, and the fine salt in my shakers.
